Most people would love the convenience and security of having an automated gate. But the cost of getting power from your house to the end of the drive can be high. Here we look at some of the pros and cons of the three power options.

Some manual gates can be automated but many will be more work and cost to bring them up to scratch.  It is often better and cheaper to start from scratch with a custom made gate but lets look at some of the considerations.

A sliding gate doesn't take up any driveway space but you need side room for the gate to open, if you have no side room for a sliding gate to open then a double swing gate is a good option but it takes up driveway space as it swings open. Learn about all the different driveway gate designs here.
